When Christianity becomes Hypocrisy - A personal opinion
This post was prompted by a post someone made on a group i belong to on Facebook.
This person, A, posted a picture of a masquerade to this page with the caption " who is ready for this during this coming christmas. Oga akpotu akpotu". Before one can say Jack Robbinson, A's post was filled with all types of bad vibes and sanctimonious christians' condemnations.
I was baffled. Is this the extent of our hypocrisy. You wish to throw away all elements of your culture on the table of Christianity.
The highly reverred christian celebrations are all built around Jewish and European cultures. Biko, a simple google search can stop all these storey-built hypocrisy i see being mounted by my christian bethren.
Don't sacrifice the entertaining elements of your culture on the table of Christianity. Mind you, i am also a christian but i refuse to allow my faith to interrupt with my culture, especially the good part of my culture. Without it, i've no identity. It is bad enough that many cultures within Africa are on the brink of extinction, yet, many of its culture bearers are yet to realize this. I really wonder what heritage this generation will leave for posterity.
I rest my case. Meanwhile, i can't wait for Christmas. I am really going to rock and run my town's masquerade. Proudly, i am glad my town still recognises the importance of this cultural element.
N.b: This is a personal opinion though. As for the pix on Christians' celebrations, you can do your private research and refute the claims. Afterall, everyday we learn.
Below pictures throws more light.
