My observations so far....
Before now!!!
Any news i hear bellowing Peter Obi's praises, i always call the source of that news "sycophants".
Any news i read criticizing Peter Obi's tenure, i shower praises on the source because it is confirming the popular thoughts of Anambra indigenes and
residents that i know.
I was among those that silently pray for an overwhelming change that will shock the marrows of Peter AdaObi (as i call him then), so that 'sanity' will be restored in his head.
But now!!
I am standing on the fence
demarcating the oppositions and
supporters camps because:
Having spent close to 14days in my hometown, electricity has been flowing like River Niger. My Aunt confirmed that it has been so before my return.
As i was patrolling around my village, i sighted a primary healthcare centre. My first thought was 'AdaObi has come
with his Abracadabra again o'. But i
was surprised by presence of
healthworkers and familiar faces of kins that are patients. It is functioning.
There's this govt primary school beside my church parish in my town; last sunday, i saw the school again and lo, it was glittering like a posh private school in the city. When i made further enquiry about its interior, the story was
still the same. Infact, i have a pupil of the school that i tutor during my stay here. The quality of her classworks and homeworks are quite impressive. Likewise other schools in my town.
The number of roads constructed
within my town that led to other towns has risen tremendously. Additional two are still under construction.
I also heard from reliable sources that the famous Agulu lake is rapidly transforming to a tourist centre with a gigantic hotel that is currently under construction.
There's also a new motor park that is quite spacious, cleaner and orderly.
But, i have my reservations about all these developments, which are:
can these amenities be found in
greater portions of Anambra state?
Is he giving a preferential treatment to people of Agulu because he is also from the town?
Are my town members biased in
singing his praises becos he is a son of the soil. Afterall since my mother's soup is always the best, then my brother's tenure will always be the best.
Still, there are shortcomings, like:
there's no provision for accessing
portable drinking water. Yes, there's rainwater stored in cemented wells and GP tanks in a lot of compounds, but it is not enough. For my stay here, i take
satchet water from God-knows-where. Not many can afford that.
There are no visible industries for the youths. Alot of them roam aimlessly and endlessly in the villages. Though i heard that Obi is trying to create 5000 jobs for Anambra youths. Let's pray it
becomes a reality.
There should be provision for a central town library and recreational centres.
There ought to be an Agro-centre that wil oversee the distribution of fertilizers and solve the agricultural issues of the
people since many are still farmers.
Kudos to him for the efforts so far.
